Eddie BUDIONGO lives and works in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Passionate about drawing since the age of six, he graduated from Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa in 2010 and is a member of Kalama les Ateliers Réunis. The artist’s universe is cosmopolitan, characterized by a symbiosis of chromatic and graphic aspects. Through composition and sketching, Budiongo incorporates both figurative and non-figurative forms onto his canvases, exploring a philosophy of everyday life’s history.
Budiongo has adopted an approach to cultural and social phenomena centered on human subjects living their own lives, focusing on their actions, gestures, and experiences. The characters in his paintings embody a posture of existence, appearance, and humanism. He addresses issues related to fashion, passion, determination in business, and the bravery of street vendors and small traders. Additionally, he delves into the history of mentalities shaped by urbanization and environment. He advocates for civic responsibility as a foundation of ethics that can transform individuals into responsible citizens without harming others. He also analyzes the hybrid changes that contemporary societies undergo in response to ideological shocks brought about by globalization.
