Papy Tamba Pambu

Sculptor

PAPY TAMBA PAMBU is a metal sculptor who, through his experience, has mastered flat metal into a highly detailed art form known as KIKANDALA, transforming it into iconic masterpieces of contemporary art. His works vary in material depending on choice, embodying a new genre of contemporary art where the medium’s versatility knows no bounds. TAMBA practices the art of recycling flat iron obtained from markets like Ngambela, Wenze ya Ngaba, Wenze ya Matete, and Zando ya Monene, repurposing the metal into wire form derived from secondhand clothing known as Tombola.

The uniqueness of his artistic approach lies in the three-dimensional form of his works, where the skill of his hands opens new avenues in sculptural creation.

Moreover, imbued with a worldview of offering and openness, TAMBA explores the empty lines that give birth to the stripes of the Okapi and Zebra, symbolizing mastery of material, self-esteem, the primal beauty of form in emptiness, form over time, form in flexible matter, and form in the mind as a conduit of vital energy vibrations. This activates the subconscious imagination, stirring dormant senses in human beings.
